I am ready to die like Bhimsen Thapa: Bhattarai

GORKHA, MAR 13 - UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai said on Sunday that he is ready to hang himself just like Bhimsen Thapa, if anything wrong goes while doing right in the interest of the nation.

Thapa was the first prime minister of Nepal and is regarded as a national hero.

Bhattarai vented his frustration over the attempt from within his own party to stop him from becoming the chief guest of Gorkha Parishad.

“Bhimsen Thapa had to kill himself while he tried to so something for the nation,” said the Maoist leader adding that even the Nepali Congress and UML cadres have not become miser in praising his good sides. “Do you want Baburam to face the same plight?”

Speaking at the inauguration of fourth Parishad of District Development Committee, Gorkha, leader Bhattarai said he is being hemmed in when he intended to do some good work for the people.

“Does it mean that all the works that I have done so far in the district were manifestation of crime?” he counter questioned the district level Maoist leaders close to Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. “If not, tell the truth from the inner core of your heart. I am ready to thousands of such crimes in the name of people and the nation.”

He went on to complain that he was not understood justifiably even when he kept on visiting the district to interact with people and discuss new development plans.

“We want to establish national, international agencies. For that, we must start from one place. And I want to start it from Gorkha,” said leader Bhattarai, who spoke about the development in the district for about 45 minutes.

Saying that he read in the newspapers about the controversy over naming him the chief guest of the Parishad, he dubbed those involved in creating controversy “the new Mandale”.

“Any body who boasts of their ego will be perished just like the Panchyat regime,” said Bhattarai.

Earlier, there were preparations to make another Maoist Vice Chairman Narayan Kahi Shreshtha the chief guest while making Bhattarai a guest.
