KATHMANDU: Normal life has been crippled due to the general shutdown jointly called by the Newa and Tamsaling state committees in Kahtmandu and elsewhere on Wednesday.
Public transport, educational institutions and markets have remained shut to the strike in the Kathmandu Valley and the adjoining districts namely Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Sindhuli, Chitwan and Dolakha.
Bandh enforcers have however allowed vehicles of emergency services to ply on the road. The strike has also affected life in the Terai region bringing to a halt all long-route and short-route transports services, leaving thousands of passengers stranded on the highway.
No untoward incidents have been reported as yet.
The Newa and Tamsaling state committees have enforced today’s strike to press the government for timely promulgation of the new constitution and inclusion of the rights of indigenous communities in the new statute, among other issues.
